Waterbear™ Combination Weaponlight and Iron Sight

The Waterbear attachment is an accessory accepted by any standard picatinny rail. Mounted at the foremost position on the top rail, the Waterbear attachment performs the functions of both a weaponlight and a folding front iron sight.

No more lights or canted backup sights hanging off the side of the handguard. The Waterbear attachment is space-efficient and doesn't increase the overall width of the firearm.

With the sight base stowed, the Waterbear attachment sits below the window of modern optics. It is designed to co-witness with standard height AR-15 optics and rear iron sights. The monolithic aluminum body provides excellent durability and retention of zero.

Controls are convenient and ergonomic. With identical switches on the left and right sides, the Waterbear attachment offers 100% ambidextrous operation. Right-handers and left-handers alike can actuate the light switch and raise the sight, without changing the position of the support hand.

The modern LED driver circuit accepts power from a common 1.5V AA battery.

The sight post can be adjusted for elevation without the need for any tools. Simply position the sight base at 45 degrees, move the sight post spring out of its groove, and rotate the sight post. Return the sight post spring to the groove to lock in the setting.

The electronics are sealed from moisture using O-rings and silicone switch seals. These wear components are replaceable by the end user and use no adhesives. 

This is a working prototype of the invention. Some parts that are plastic in the prototype may be made of metal in production models. The two-tone color scheme is used here only to provide contrast for better illustration of the different parts. Production models may be available in any range of colors.
